Prompt is the command you input to the AI. A good prompt will tell the AI: who you are, what problem you want to solve, what information it already has, who the output is for, and what format you want it to answer in.
The structure of a good prompt
Role
Tell the AI what perspective it should use to approach the task, such as that of a consultant, editor, teacher, sales coach, or product manager.
Task
Clearly state what you want it to accomplish, such as summarizing, rewriting, comparing, translating, analyzing, or generating solutions.
background
Supplement the industry, audience, language, constraints, cultural context, and methods you have tried.
Output format
Specify whether you want a checklist, table, outline, essay, email, SOP or script.
Practical examples
If you ask AI to write a client brief for you, don’t just say “Write copy for me.” Say: "You are a digital consultant for small and medium-sized businesses. Based on the client profile below, please write a 5-point brief for your boss, using a professional but not too technical tone."
Common misunderstandings
Prompt does not need to be as long as possible. The focus is on whether the information is relevant, whether the objectives are clear, and whether the output is usable.
